Argentina Southern Patagonia - Cuisine

Argentina is famous for its steak and lamb dishes. It is a country with lots of different kind of meat. The portions are generally large, similar to those in the U.S.

Potato and steak at Grill & Restaurante Don Pichon
Restaurant name: Don Pichon
Address: Puerto Deseado 242El Calafate
Note: It is up on a hill, therefore, offers great view of the El Calafate landscape. If you sit at a table, it has an extra charge of table / silverware

Argentina has its traditional and local ice cream. It is a must-try in the area. It's made out of the Calafate berry that grows right in El Calafate. It is sweet, however, with a tint of sourness. It reminds me the taste of plum. You can walk into any ice cream store and ask for Calafate ice cream!

Lamb is huge in Argentina. This is called Cordero Classico, a classic dish with lamb slowly cooked with potato, red pepper, green peas, carrots, and tomato. It is a huge and delicious dish with a really good price.

El Chalten is known for the hiking, but it still has really good food. The restaurants
serve you delicious and special free appetizer. This particular restaurant is small,
but with very nice and friendly waiter and waitress.

Of course, cannot forget to try some local beer. Although this is not an area famous for beer, I tried beer at my hostel. It's called Lauther de Bariloche. Very smoothing.

"Small" lunch at my hostel - Rancho Grande. It is their hamburger with not just beef patty, but ham, bacon, and egg, tomato, lettuce, cheese, and fries!

Next stop is Ushuaia, known as the End of the World. It is pretty much surrounded by water, therefore, definitely cannot miss their seafood. King crab it is!

My host at Ushuaia recommended me a restaurant where he goes there every day for their lunch special. It is one of the most authentic restaurant in the area, where you can sit on a bench at the stand and watch the chef makes the food right in front of you.
